Abstract
Song with violin and keyboard accompaniment, sung by soldier farewelling his wife. 3 verses with refrain. Austen originally wrote 'soldier' as in the published version, but crossed out the word and replaced it with 'sailor'.
Description
Violin part transcribed by G. Dooley from manuscript in Jane Austen's hand in Jane Austen's House Museum collection (JAHM 3:12). Piano accompaniment and melody copied with slight alterations (as performed in 2007-09) from Joyce Donley's arrangement at Austen Music
Online, and compared with Austen's MS in September 2010.
