Abstract
The present study discusses the linguistic minorities inhabiting Western Thrace. The treaty of Lausanne in 1923 was based on the religion of minorities and not their language. It’s only the last 15 years that the Greek state has been interested in their language situation. Research has led to a conclusion that instead of one there are three different minorities each having a distinct language and a distinct culture.
