Abstract
The achievements of those in the humanities and social sciences don't seem that spectacular, nor are they widely recognised, but without the humanities and the social sciences technology is near enough to useless. Crime follows opportunity, and technology has created new criminal opportunities, and not just in the areas of cybercrime, money laundering and identity fraud. Technology for example, has helped burglars, as products that are small, valuable and concealable are easy to steal.
