In Screen and Media, we explore screen media as one of the most pervasive and influential aspects of culture. While television, film, video games, and the Internet are important to our everyday lives, these media often are not examined critically. In Screen and Media we look at the ways in which audio visual media are put together, how they affect the way we relate to other people and other cultures, and at how they are important to our understanding of reality and our very ways of seeing and knowing.
We study screen media as technological forces, artistic enterprises, textual systems, industry systems, and instruments of ideology. We investigate the economics of entertainment and information. We develop a critical language to analyse and express the role of audio-visual media in culture, and we consider a range of theoretical approaches to the study of film, television, and multimedia. We offer a range of production subjects in a variety of screen-based media so that our graduates will be prepared to take up careers in screen media.
