Plasma IGF-I concentration significantly increased with increasing ration size in barramundi and IGF-I concentration was positively correlated to growth rates obtained in Atlantic salmon (r2=0.67) and barramundi (r2=0.65) when fed a variety of diet formulations. IGF-I was also positively correlated to protein concentration (r2=0.59). This evidence suggested that measuring IGF-I concentration may provide a useful tool for monitoring fish growth rate and also as a method to rapidly assess different aquaculture diets. However, no such correlation was demonstrated in the tuna study probably due to seasonal cooling of sea surface temperature shortly before blood was sampled. Thus, some recommendations for the design and sampling strategy of nutritional trials where IGF-I concentrations are measured are discussed.Item Metabolic effects of amoebic gill disease (AGD) and chloramine-T in seawater acclimated Atlantic salmon Salmo salar(2007) Harris, James Owen; Leef, Melanie J; Powell, Mark DItem Incorporation time of oxytetracycline into calcified structures of the elasmobranch Heterodontus portusjacksoni(2007) Bolton, Toby Fitzgerald; Rodda, Kate; Izzo, Christopher JamesItem Effect of oxygen supersaturation and temperature on juvenile greenlip, Haliotis laevigata Donovan, and blacklip, Haliotis rubra Leach, abalone(2005) Harris, James Owen; Burke, Christopher M; Edwards, Stephen J; Johns, Deon RItem The impact of diet on the growth and proximate composition of juvenile whelks, Dicathais orbita (Gastropoda: Mollusca).(2008) Woodcock, Skye; Benkendorff, KirstenItem Dissolved Oxygen Characteristics of the Gamtoos Estuary, South Africa(2003) Schumann, E H; Pearce, Meryl WinsomeItem Comparison of digestive and antioxidant enzymes activities, haemolymph oxyhemocyanin contents and hepatopancreas histology of white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, at various salinities(2008) Qin, Jianguang; Li, Erchao; Chen, Li Qiao; Zeng, Ceng; Yu, Na; Xiong, Zequan; Chen, XuefenItem Consequences of natural variation in maternal investment and larval nutrition on larval growth of a marine polychaete(2007) Smith, Benjamin; Bolton, Toby FitzgeraldItem Larval fish nutrition and rearing technology: state of the art and future(Nova Science Publishers, 2008) Qin, JianguangItem Ontogenetic development of the digestive system in yellowtail kingfish Seriola lalandi larvae(2006) Chen, Ben Nan; Kumar, Martin S; Hutchinson, Wayne; Clarke, Steven; Qin, JianguangItem Gastropod egg mass deposition on a temperate, wave-exposed coastline in New South Wales, Australia: implications for intertidal conservation(2004) Benkendorff, Kirsten; Davis, AndrewItem Genetic Improvement Methodologies in Aquaculture(Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2008) Mair, Graham CharlesItem Effects of dissolved organic carbon and hardness in freshwater used to treat amoebic gill disease(2005) Green, Timothy J; Powell, Mark D; Harris, James Owen; Butler, RickItem Abundance and distribution of South Australia's endemic sea star, Parvulastra parvivipara (Asteroidea : Asterinidae)(2008) Roediger, Lana; Bolton, Toby FitzgeraldItem Clinical assessment of chloramine-T and freshwater as treatments for the control of gill amoebae in Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L.(2005) Harris, James Owen; Powell, Mark D; Attard, Michael; DeHayr, Luke
