Abstract
Please note: This article is in Greek. Modernist Emotions: The Cavafean Case: The affinity between Eliot’s and Cavafy’s
poetry was well established by Seferis in 1946, in his seminal essay “Cavafy and Eliot.
A Comparison”. Central to this study were Eliot’s views on the “objectification” of emotion
through the techniques of the “objective correlative” and “mythical method”. This
paper re-examines the Seferean approach to Cavafy and explores other dimensions of
emotive response to Cavafy’s poetry, such as the potential of affective engagement made
possible by the different levels of identification with the poet’s characters.
