Today it is generally accepted that the old distinction "what is not prose is verse; and what is not verse is prose" is not fully valid. Furthermore, it has been argued that various genres tend to coincide. It is argued in this article that in both C. Ioannou's and M. In this paper two novellas - The Murderess (1904) by Alex Papadiamantis and Beyond Good and Evil (1940) by Nikos Nikolaides - are analysed comparatively within the general theoretical framework of realism.
